Gill Wilson and I were invited to the Wakkerstroom Rose Show again this year and, as we had brought Sheenagh Harris up to Natal to judge our Show, we were able to call on her once again to judge at the Wakkerstroom Show.
Wakkerstroom is the Birder’s paradise in South Africa and this lovely little town close to Volkstrust. It has many B&B’s and restaurants to cater for tourists.
This is the second year, that Claudine Spencer has organised a Rose Show as well as Open Gardens in this little town. The Rose Show takes place in a barn on the Iris farm which is in the town. Approximately, 10 gardens were open including the NG Kerk which has the most roses, some very old. (Desperately need a good pruning!!!!)
Barbara Wood, newly appointed President of ROSA and her friend Amanda Renwick also joined us in Wakkerstroom as well Vivienne Black, who helped Gill Wilson as prospective judges.
There were not as many roses on the Show this year as the town had frost the previous week. The Queen of the Show was the HT, Ingrid Bergman.
